N-acetylcysteine

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is used as an antioxidant precursor to restore glutathione levels for more than 30 years. Recent research has suggested that NAC be of benefit for the treatment of a wide range of psychiatric disorders. In research studies performed on human subjects, NAC was found to help reduce addictive behavior, such as nail biting, illegal drug use, hair pulling, OCD tendencies, and pathological gambling. NAC also showed positive results for patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
